Sony Masterworks Broadway has announced that the Original Broadway Cast Recording of “The Outsiders – A New Musical” will be released digitally on May 22, 2024, with physical CDs available starting June 28. The announcement coincides with the release of the third preview track “Soda’s Letter,” featuring vocals by Jason Schmidt with Brent Comer and Brody Grant.

Based on S.E. Hinton’s iconic novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s landmark film, the musical is currently in previews at Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City, with opening night scheduled for April 11.

“Soda’s Letter” follows two previously released tracks: “Stay Gold,” performed by Sky Lakota-Lynch (Johnny Cade) and Brody Grant (Ponyboy Curtis), and “Great Expectations,” performed by Brody Grant. All three tracks are now available on digital streaming platforms.

A Story of Friendship and Belonging

Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967, “The Outsiders” follows Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade, and their Greaser family as they navigate conflicts with their affluent rivals, the Socs. The musical explores themes of self-discovery, friendship, family, and belonging through a dynamic original score.

The production features music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay & Zach Chance) and Justin Levine, with a book by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine. Danya Taymor directs the production, with choreography by Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman.

“The Outsiders” made its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in March 2023 before transferring to Broadway.
