The upcoming season, with performances scheduled for Thursdays to Sundays, is meticulously crafted to offer a blend of emotion, joy, and timeless music, set to create lasting memories for all who attend.
Kicking off the season is the timeless classic “Fiddler on the Roof,” scheduled from February 9 to March 10, 2024. This award-winning musical, renowned for its heartwarming narrative and memorable score, dives deep into the themes of tradition and family amidst the backdrop of Czarist Russia. Its universal message of resilience and adaptability in the face of change has touched audiences worldwide, making it a staple in the realm of musical theatre.
Following the opening act, SDMT will bring the vibrant and energetic “Legally Blonde” to the stage from May 3 to June 2, 2024. Based on the beloved movie, this fabulously fun musical follows Elle Woods as she challenges stereotypes and chases her dreams in the hallowed halls of Harvard Law School. With catchy songs and dynamic dances, “Legally Blonde The Musical” is a testament to empowerment and the pursuit of one’s passions against all odds.
In the fall, the stage will darken for the thrilling tale of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” running from September 20 to October 20, 2024. This gripping musical, adorned with Tony Awards, tells the story of vengeance and love in Victorian London. With its complex characters and Stephen Sondheim’s unforgettable score, “Sweeney Todd” promises a theatrical experience that’s both enthralling and thought-provoking.
The year will conclude with the holiday cheer of “The Winter Wonderettes,” from November 29 to December 29, 2024. This sequel to “The Marvelous Wonderettes” is a festive journey through the ’60s greatest holiday hits, guaranteed to spread joy and nostalgia with every note.
Moreover, SDMT’s pre-professional production, “13: The Musical,” will take the stage from July 19 to 28, 2024, showcasing the talents of a vibrant young cast in a story about growing up and fitting in.
